April 2018 Sec Update
Hi all,
Just a reminder that Mary McCarthy has organised a SCRABBLE morning for tomorrow 18TH APRIL in MOUNTRATH GOLF CLUB commencing at 11.30 and finishing at 1.30pm with coffee to start and lunch after if required.Hopefully there will be good interest in this activity and it may lead to other such Scrabble events. Dont forget if you are coming to bring a scrabble board, letter tiles etc.

Also a reminder that the next GOLF OUTING is on FRIDAY 18th MAY in PORTARLINGTON GOLF CLUB commencing at 1100am (more details later).

The next SOCIAL MEETING will be on the first Tuesday of May in the usual MALDRON HOTEL at 2.30PM with Mick Lenihan conducting a TABLE QUIZ .

The SUMMER MEETING of laois RTAI Branch is fixed for 7th JUNE in the LAOIS EDUCATION CENTRE (more details later).

The Branch wishes to sympathise with the family of Bridie Conroy of O Moore Street Mountmellick who died on Wed. last 11th April. While Bridie was not a member of the RTAI she would probably be well known to many of our members as she was principal of Barnashrone NS for many years up to her retirement. Her daughter Michelle Kirwan is also a Primary Teacher (at The Rock NS)

If anyone is interested in any of the Tours organised by other branches of the RTAI please refer to notices from Mary McCarthy and Sheelagh or check the Laois RTAI website.

Congratulations to Sheelagh Coyle on representing the national RTAI at the INTO Congress

Also sympathy to the Ryan Family of Borris-in Ossory on the death of Joe Ryan (Seosamh O Riain) who was a member of the Laois Branch RTAI. Joe passed away on 22nd December 2017 and was buried in Ballaghmore . I only became aware of his death when I got a notice from RTAI head office last week. I do not know where he spent his teaching career but maybe some of our members might be familiar with him. I have not known him to attend a Meeting or any RTAI event and maybe if any of our members have any information on him they might let me know.
May Joe and Bridie rest in peace.
