August 17
Dear members,

We had a reasonably good turn-out of members for our August Meeting in Emo Court where after a chat in a private room off the cafe people continued in the cafe over tea/coffee/cakes.Members were then free to do their own thing-walk around estate, visit house etc.on one of the better days of the Summer.
As our next scheduled first Tuesday meeting (September) is the day after the Golf Outing it was decided to combine both and have the Meeting in conjunction with the Golf in ROSCREA GOLF CLUB on MONDAY 4 TH SEPTEMBER at 4.00pm.So whether you take part in the Golf Outing or not you will be welcome to attend and join with the golfers as they finish their rounds.Food is available all day in Roscrea Golf Club so if you wish to have lunch/dinner there  that is recommended .Also tea/coffee/scones etc. are available at all times.Furthermore it is hoped that people with talent of playing musical instruments would bring their instruments along for a possible seisiun or sing song after the end of the golf.
For anyone not familiar with the location of Roscrea Golf Club it is on the Borris-in-Ossory side of Roscrea (on old N7)on the left hand side before Farm Relief Services (FRS) and Racket Hall Hotel. If you are travelling from Portlaoise direction on the Motorway take the Borris-in-Ossory exit or if you wish to avoid the toll take the Mountrath/Castletown exit.
If you are not participating in the Golf   Roscrea Heritage (Castle and Damer House) in the town centre  might be worth a visit before the meeting. It is on the OPW Heritage List and is open from 10.00 to 18.00 (admission €4).Also Cistersian College Mount Saint Joseph Abbey is a few miles out of town.
The Golf competition will be a 12 hole 3 Person Scramble and is open to all whether a golf club member or not and the tee box (starting time) for Laois RTAI is from 11.30 to 12.30.If you wish to take part please notify our organiser Catherine Lorigan (ex Pike of Rushall N.S) by e-mail lorigancat@gmail.com or by text 087-2865745 as soon as possible and you will be allocated a time.
Just a reminder that Heritage Week is on all over the country at the moment (August 19-27)and there are a lot of interesting walks, talks, exhibitions etc. taking place all around Laois.Sheelagh Coyle kindly provided all members who attended at Emo meeting in August with an Event Guide Book.Guide Books are available at all libraries or check www.heritageweek.ie for local events.
Also a general reminder that entry to all OPW sites on the FIRST WEDNESDAY OF each MONTH is FREE to everyone. See www.heritageireland.ie for list of sites.
And another reminder that BRIDGE CLASSES with Mr. Seamus Rhattigan commence in the Laois Education Centre on THURSDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER from 10.00 to 11.00 and will continue on the following Thursdays at the same time.If you have not already informed me of your interest please do so as soon as possible.
As this notice only goes to people online I would be grateful if you could bring the contents to the notice of colleagues you know  who do not have email addresses or if they dont use email but do have internet access refer them to our website RTAI laois as Paddy Bates (our IT co-ordinator)is very prompt in putting this notice on the site.
Tá suil agam go mbeidh slua maith againn i Ros Cre ar an 4ú la de Mean Fomhair.
