Hi members ,

The first Social Meeting of 2019 took place in the Maldron Hotel,Portlaoise on Tuesday 5th February. While there was a good catch up on matters since last meeting in December the main activity of the assembly was a Table Quiz with Mick Lenihan as usual asking the questions 75 in total with 4 teams having a close battle and a score of 64 coming out on top.

Plans were made for 3 events -a theatre visit,a golf outing and a tour.

The theatre event is a planned return to The ABBEY THEATRE in Dublin for an afternoon (2pm ) production of THE COUNTRY GIRLS (based on the Edna O Brien book of the same name) and the date chosen is WEDNESDAY 13th MARCH.If you are interested in attending please contact Mary McCarthy (mcartr3@yahoo.ie  087-2221490 ) as soon as possible to reserve tickets at a cost of
€ 20.

The GOLF outing is for TUESDAY 19th March at Rathdowney Golf Club along the usual format and more details will be sent out before the event.

It is hoped to organise a trip to the English city of YORK in association with Marathon Travel and the proposed dates are 7TH to 11TH of MAY i.e. 5 nights. The cost will be a maximum of € 485 but depending on numbers could be reduced to € 435. I sent out details in an earlier attachment showing the itinerary,what’s included etc. And if you are interested please contact me or Mary McCarthy (at above)  as soon as possible.

The next social meeting will be on the first Tuesday of March (5th) in the Maldron at the usual time 2.30pm.
The RTAI National Convention will take place on Tuesday 5th March in the Gresham Hotel and Laois will be represented by Chairman John Mulhare and Secretary Sean Mullaney. Also in attendance will be Sheelagh Coyle as National President with her term of office ending on that date and Mary McCarthy our District Rep (who will be seeking re-election).

Also seeking election will be our former chairperson Catherine Coleman who has been nominated to contest the vacancy (left by Joe Hickey) on the Standing Orders Committee and the branch wishes her success.
