Letter March 2020
Greetings members,
Hope all staying well and keeping safe from virus.
Just a short note with latest news. Myself as secretary and Chairman John Mulhare were the Laois branch representatives at the RTAI Annual Congress in the Gresham Hotel in Dublin on Tuesday last. The main news for Laois members is that our member Anne Curtin was successful in her contest for a position on the Financial Supervisory Committee with the only other candidate withdrawing so Anne was elected without a ballot. Congratulations to Anne and best wishes in her role. Anne will be joining 2 other Laois representatives on the National Committees with Mary McCarthy continuing in her role as District Rep and Catherine Coleman in her role on the Standing Orders Committee .
Sheelagh Coyle after a year on the Executive as ex-president had to vacate her position on the Board and she received a presentation to honour her time as President and Executive member. Sheelagh as a past president will be eligible to attend all future Annual Congresses.
Other details re Convention are on the RTAI website. The Laois motion proposed at our AGM in December (re voting in districts) was passed unanimously with Chairman John Mulhare moving the motion convincingly.
Hopefully there was an attendance at our social meeting in the Abbeyleix Manor. The above mentioned couldnt attend due to the clash. No decision has been made on venue for April Meeting so again if anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know. Eitherways as we dont have a formal committee as such I am proposing (on suggestions from other members) that we have a meeting of people with ideas, proposals for social events, courses, trips etc and perhaps draw up a plan for a years programme. I hope a good number of people would be interested in joining this ‘ad-hoc committee’.If you are such a person please send me an email or text and we will organise a date/venue for such a meeting-hopefully in the next week or two.
Thanks to Mary McCarthy for her continuing efforts re social events as her Scrabble Morning went ahead on Friday last in Mountrath Golf Club. Mary has 2 tickets available for her Theatre trip to the Gate on Sat 14th March -matinee of play The New Girl. If you are interested please contact Mary. Also a further reminder of Golf Outing in Mountrath on Friday 20th March. See previous emails.
