Greetings to all and hope all doing well with cocooning/lock-down/social distancing since last notice.
Sympathy is extended to one of our members Brian Healion (ex Rosenallis N.S) on the recent death of his brother Colm in Dublin. Colm (R.I.P.) was a prominent figure in the Laois Society in Dublin.
I can definitely confirm that our Social Meeting for May will not take place on Tuesday 5th as things are too uncertain at the moment with the restrictions probably still in place. I can’t forecast anything about our June Meeting either which is usually one of our 2 big meetings of the year but I do know our General Secretary Billy Sheehan will not be attending any of the Summer Meetings around the country and its unlikely we’ll be in a position to hold that meeting anyway. Billy will be available (he hopes) to attend our AGM in November/December to compensate for his Summer absence.
The General Secretary has informed me that the RTAI (national) is contributing € 50,000 from our funds to help 4 charities during the Covid 19 crisis with € 20,000 each to Alone and St. Vincent de Paul and € 5,000 each to The Irish Cancer Society and the Peter McVerry Trust.
You may have noticed that you didnt get a payroll slip for your pension of 16th April but no need to panic as your pension was transferred to your bank account in the normal manner The delay in issuing payroll slips is due to staffing problems at Revenue Print & Mailing due to the Corona Virus. There may be further delays in regard to pay slips but your pension will be paid to you on the usual due date as normal. (If you need more information on this see RTAI website).
Those of us who attended the RTAI Annual Conference were very impressed by a talk from nutritionist Sarah Keogh and if you check the RTAI website you can see her guidelines for nutrition during this crisis-Keeping Healthy While Cocooning. Also on the RTAI website is a section on Information To Have At Hand In The Event Of Hospital Admission where you can download a form which if completed in advance would be very beneficial in the event of a medical emergency.
That’s all the news for now .The RTAI are hoping to have the journal Comhnasc ready and issued in May with all the latest from the national body.
Stay safe.
