Beannachtai to members Laois RTAI, May/June 2023

Thanks to all who attended for our May Social event on Tuesday of last week. We had a group of c.17/18 for a guided tour of Heywood Gardens in Ballinakill and following that tea/coffee and snacks at Polly’s Cafe at the Abbeyleix Manor. Thanks to Cathaoirleach Breda Broderick for organising the event.

Our Social first Tuesday for May will co-incide with our Annual Summer Meeting which will take place in the Laois Education Centre. This is one of only two General Meetings that take place in the year (the other being the AGM in December) so hopefully we will have a good attendance. The Summer Meeting is the only one that traditionally was attended by the RTAI General Secretary and this year it will be the last attendance by current General Secretary Billy Sheehan as he is vacating the position on July 1st to be replaced by the recently appointed John O Brien. This General Meeting on TUESDAY 6TH JUNE will have assembly/coffee from 12.00 with a 12.30 start followed by lunch at the Centre c. 1.30 pm. We will probably need an idea of numbers for that which I will request nearer the date when I also send the agenda etc..Also if you know of non-email members please inform them of the date. I will be posting notice to them in advance anyway.

Our next Social Meeting after that will be on Tuesday 4th July. Nothing has been planned for that or subsequent monthly meetings as yet but if anyone has suggestions I would like to hear them or alternatively bring them to General Meeting.

On the national scene the RTAI All-Ireland Golf Tournament takes place in Mountrath Golf Club on Monday 22nd May commencing at 10.00 am. A Laois team of 4 members have entered and will tee-off  at 11.00 am. Best wishes to the Laois quartet for a successful day.

Also the  annual Bealtaine Festival (an age & opportunities arts initiative) is underway this month. The Dunamaise Arts Centre is running a number of events (starting tomorrow Wed 10th) which are free but require booking. See Dunamase brochure or website for further details .Other events are taking place at libraries and other venues around county. For full programme just google bealtaine laois 2023.
Also our RTAI What’s App group is up and running again with 3 administrators myself (Secretay), Breda Broderick (Chairperson) Mary McCarthy (National President) and is now set that only admins can send messages. If you wish to join the group please whats app your request to one of above. This media will not replace e-mail correspondence but will be useful for sending  reminders ,cancellations etc.
