Beannachtai members Laois RTAI,

Hope all keeping well and enjoying the Summer weather and holiday season,
Thanks to all who attended our Summer General Meeting in The Laois Education Support Centre (note change of name). We had an attendance of 31 which is about average for this  June meeting and all stayed on for the traditional lunch in the venue afterwards. Thanks also to those who sent apologies in advance.

Cathaoirleach Breda Broderick presided. Sympathy was extended to the families of Brid Connell, Kay Corcoran and Tom Flynn R.I.P.-3 of our  members who died since our AGM in December last. Also sympathy to member Anne Lowry on the death of her brother Eamonn Kelly.
Our General Secretary John O'Brien was in attendance and gave a report on national matters -financial, membership, social etc. and answered queries from members. The most note-worthy matter was the recruitment of a new official to assist the General Secretary-a post which will be advertised in the near future.

Congratulations to the Laois RTAI Golf team of Mary McCarthy, Maura Killackey, William Carroll and Paud O'Reilly which represented the branch at the now annual All-Ireland Golf Classic. Unfortunately they didn't get among the prizes at Mullingar Golf Club on Monday last (same day as General Meeting-so all 4 excused for non attendance )

The next First Tuesday Social activity is coming up very shortly-a week from tomorrow  on TUESDAY 2nd JULY with a Talk and Walk  with local Des Finnamore giving an introduction to the Abbeyleix Bog Project. Assembly for this will be near Polly's Cafe at side of Manor Hotel Abbeyleix (car park) before 2.00 pm departure. This walk will be at a gentle pace and will take about an hour. Afterwards refreshments will be available at Polly's Cafe with time for chat etc.. I won't be in attendance unless Aer Lingus pilots get even more militant so just look out for Breda Broderick or Marie Thompson who are organising the activity. There is no need to book a place in advance-just turn up at Polly's before 2.00 departure.

      * The August Social will also involve a walk with Grantstown Lake near Ballacolla the venue on Tuesday 6th August. More details later in July.

     * As outlined on Whatsapp and at General Meeting Google are organising a Senior Technology Day in Google HQ on Wednesday July 10th . If you are interested in this event please contact Mary McCarthy at 087-2221490 as soon as possible.

    * in a following e-mail I am forwarding a message from RTAI General Secretary re a Health Insurance Webinar for our members on Thursday, July 25th .  If you are interested in participating please follow instructions on email.
