Thanks to all who turned up for our October Social in Manor Stone on Tuesday 4th. We had a great turn-out of over 25 (way above our usual monthly attendance) for the talk on Autumn Planting by the Centre’s horticulturist and for the refreshments after. Hopefully the talk was of benefit to all.A good number took the opportunity to add to their plant collection etc. at a discount price and helped to support Laois/local business.
Thanks especially to our member Breda Broderick for coming up with the idea and for her organisation of the talk and the refreshments after (inc.cakes supplied by local business Aghaboe Farm Foods). Also congratulations to Breda on ‘being from’ Clough-Ballacolla after their third -in-a-row win in the Laois Senior Hurling Championship on Sunday last with her son Ronan a key member of the victorious team.
The next RTAI event is the GOLF OUTING in Portarlington Golf Club (Garryhinch) on FRIDAY 28th OCTOBER next. The competition will be a 13 hole Scramble with the tee booked from 11.00 to 12.00.Those participating should assemble at 10.30 at the Clubhouse where  tea/coffee/scones will be available before tee off time. All levels of golfers or would-be golfers are welcome. No need to confirm just turn up on the day and see the organisers Paddy Bates and Mary McCarthy.
After  that, the November Social will be on Wednesday 9th November (not the usual first Tuesday) with the showing of the acclaimed film An Cailin Ciuin at the Dunamaise Arts Centre/Theatre at 11.00 am.Quite a good number have already expressed interest in attending and I have reserved tickets to cover that group. I can probably book more so if you havent  signed up yet let me know as soon as possible. The admission will be free to members (paid from the Laois Branch funds) but if staying on for tea/coffee etc. after it will be at your own expense.
There will not be a casual Social Meeting in December as this is the month in which we hold our AGM-the date yet to be decided. After 2 years of restricted AGMs  (Committee only in 2020 and AGM with Dinner last year) we will probably return to a pre-Covid regular AGM but we still have options in that regard e.g.
AGM in Education Centre with meal provided by Centre (as 2019 and  previously).
AGM in Killeshin Hotel before or in conjunction with Christmas Dinner (as 2021)
If you have any preferences re. above or alternatives that you would like to share please let me know.
