Sec Update Septenber 18
Hi members,
Our last monthly Social Meeting was fairly well attended with a change of venue for the first Tuesday of September to Abbeyleix Manor Hotel where there was a good chat and get-together. A smaller number then took the nearby Bog walk on the board-walk etc. on a dry pleasant afternoon.

On the following day a group of 10 members or associates attended The Snapper at The Gate Theatre in Dublin for what was an excellent show and hilarious all through. Thanks to Catherine Coleman for initiating our attendance.

Yours truly, as Secretary of the Laois Branch RTAI attended The National RTAI Secretaries Conference in the Gresham Hotel on Thursday last -hearing all the latest especially in relation to Data Protection (and already you may have noticed you are not seeing the list of members at the top of the e-mail-just one of the changes I have to make-and more to come) Also in attendance was President Sheelagh Coyle who opened the conference and Mary McCarthy the District RTAI rep.

The INTO are this year celebrating 150 years and are marking it in various ways. I have been asked by the Secretary of Portlaoise Branch INTO (Darach Kennedy) to inform former members of the PORTLAOISE BRANCH INTO of their celebrations to which retired teachers who were members of the branch are invited.
Venue MALDRON HOTEL,PORTLAOISE
Date   WED. 10TH OCTOBER
Time 6.30 PM
For Wine Reception,Finger food and some short speeches.
Other Laois branches may be organising functions etc re INTO 150 but I have not been informed of any.

The OCTOBER SOCIAL MEETING for LAOIS RTAI will return to the MALDRON HOTEL on TUESDAY 2nd OCTOBER at the usual 2.30pm. Nothing special planned .Just turn up if you feel like it.

Mary McCarthy has organised a SCRABBLE morning in MOUNTRATH GOLF CLUB-HOUSE  for FRIDAY 12TH OCTOBER and all are welcome-commencing at 11.00AM and finishing c. 1.00 PM. Tea/coffee and lunch available in the Clubhouse.
Mary may also organise a MINDFULNESS COURSE if there is sufficient interest. She already had some interest at the September Meeting and if you are interested please contact Mary or myself.

Thats all for now but if you know anyone who recently retired or who has retired a while but has not joined the RTAI perhaps you could encourage them to do so.
