RTAI Convention 18
Hi members,The RTAI annual convention took place on Tuesday last(6-3-2018) in the Gresham Hotel,Dublin and Laois was represented by Chairman John Mulhare and Secretary Sean Mullaney.
Also in attendance were Joe Hickey as a member of Standing Orders Committee,Mary McCarthy as a District Representative and Sheelagh Coyle as vice-president. The highlight of the Convention from a Laois point-of-view was the inauguration of Sheelagh as National President for 2018-19 as she was granted the chain of office by the outgoing Luke McGinley and will head the organisation for the next year.Sheelagh's first duty was to address congress at its conclusion but she will preside over all the RTAI National Meetings for the next twelve months. It is a great honour for the Laois branch to have a member attain the highest office in the organisation and it a well deseved position as Sheelagh has been such an enthusiastic member and officer in Laois since her retirement.
The main decision of the Meeting was the change of the organisation to a Company Limited by Guarantee status of which you shall learn more through Comhnasc and the RTAI website. The 2 motions brought forward by Laois following our AGM in December were carried as were the majority of motions on the clar. They concerned the Financing of Branches and a recruitment drive to increase membership with unanimous support from the floor.
Sec.Sean Mullaney
