AGM June 2018
Considering the weather (heat and sun for a change) there was a good attendance (c. 30) at our Summer Meeting on Thursday 7th June in the Laois Education Centre .
Chairman John Mulhare welcomed all - remarking on the difference with our last General Meeting when snow and ice had to be overcome to attend.
Secretary Sean Mullaney read minutes of previous 2 meetings and matters arising.
Our General Secretary Billy Sheehan on his annual visit infomed us of latest developments in terms of pension,USC,the national body etc.
Our own National President Sheelagh Coyle on her first Laois General Meeting since her election to the top position also addressed the Meeting and as well as national issues as usual had the latest on matters local and Laois.
Sympathy was expressed with the families of 2 of our members who passed away since the last meeting-Christina Lawlor of Mountmellick and Joseph Ryan of Borris-in-Ossory RIP.
Also sympathies to the family of former teacher Bridie Conroy of Mountmellick.
Sympathies also to members -to Mabel Peavoy on the death of her brother in Canada ,to Maura Reynolds on the death of her sister Marjorie Hamill and to Jean Treacy on the death of her mother Harriet Burke(Co. Mayo) RIP.
The next Social Meeting will be on the first Tuesday of July as usual but with a different venue proposed-namely a repeat of our July event last year-afternoon tea (ie tea and scones ) in Durrow Castle and a casual tour of the grounds and gardens in your own time before or after .I will come back with a definite time closer to the event but probably at usual time 2.30 pm. I propose to do the same as last year with a charge of € 5 per person (this is subsidised) and partners are also welcome. I have a good list of names of those interested in participating from our Meeting last Thursday but if your name isnt on that list and you are interested you may email (seanmullaney@eircom.net) or text me (0876324547) as the hotel would need to know numbers re catering and room size (say let me know by previous Sunday night at latest)
For golf enthusiasts there is notice on our website re a Golf outing in Mount Juliet in Kilkenny in which there may be availability for non Kilkenny RTAI members.
The next Laois RTAI Golf Outing is fixed for Abbeytleix on Thursday 13th September with an 11.00 am start - more details later.
Keep an eye on the Laois RTAI website for other events of local interest which Paddy Bates puts up regularly and also lots of interesting links.
Also check the national RTAI website for the latest updates on pensions but also re. re-unions which may be coming up for your college groups.
Enjoy the real Summer
Sean Mullaney(Rúnaí)
