Thanks to all who attended our Social Gathering in The Heritage Golf Club in Killenard yesterday. An attendance of 16 was above average and a good return to normality over 2 years since our last such meeting in March 2020. The venue was a suitable one for our requirements (especially tea/coffee/scones) and one that we will likely return to in the future. The Meeting consisted mainly of chat but some short-term plans were made with our next SOCIAL MEETING fixed for TUESDAY 12th APRIL (again the 2nd Tuesday of the month because of clash with national RTAI event)It will have a 2.00pm start and it will include a TABLE QUIZ by Michael Lenihan (Mountmellick). It was planned to hold this in Mountrath Golf Club but this venue is unavailable so we are looking for an alternative venue re. which I will inform you in advance (would welcome suggestions-tea/coffee etc. service a pre-requisite).
Another event which will be of interest to some people is the return (again after more than 2 years) of our GOLF OUTINGS. Mary McCarthy has organised the first one for MOUNTRATH GOLF CLUB for THURSDAY 14th of APRIL with an 11.00 am start. It will be a 3 person scramble but you dont have to have team in advance-just turn up as an individual player.Spouses, partners etc. of members will also be welcome to join in. More details will be issued closer to the event.
Please inform me (as below) or co-ordinator Mary McCarthy (087-2221490) if interested.Future outings will take place at other Golf Clubs around county or bordering counties.
A national inter-branch Golf Competition is planned for this year for which the Laois Branch will be entering a team-so if you wish to be considered you should take part in the above.
Other activities that came into consideration for future were SCRABBLE MORNINGS,WALKS, BRIDGE and CIORCAL GAEILGE.
If you are interested in any of these activities please let me know (e-mail/text) or if you were unable to attend yesterday’s gathering and have ideas please let me know and I can check if there is interest.
Just reminding you again that we have a LAOIS RTAI WEBSITE which is administered by Paddy Bates (Clonaslee).Just type in laois rtai. Also there is a national website rtai ireland which has general information but also you can see activities in other counties and sometimes offers from those counties re. trips etc. which they cant fill within their own branches ansd welcome other branch members to partake.
Also another reminder-If you know people who have retired recently and not joined the RTAI please encourage them to do so. This is especially the case post pandemic with very few new retirees joining in the past 2 years.
