Sec Update 31-7-24
Hope all enjoying the 'unsettled' Summer. A new month looming and time for more details to you about August Social.
First of all, since this is my first e-mail notice to you since June, thanks to all who attended the July (2nd) Bog Walk in Abbeyleix. We had a very good attendance (24) and a very informative tour with Des Finnamore of Birdwatch Ireland. Most retired to Polly's then at Abbeyleix Manor for 'recovery' refreshments. Thanks to Cathaoirleach Breda and Maria Thompson for organising/co-ordinating etc.
Anyway , as already vaguely notified to you in June our next social on TUESDAY next 6 TH AUGUST is another outdoor event with a Walk & Talk at Grantstown Lake in Ballacolla. Assembly will be at the usual time of 2.00 pm with the Car Park of Grantstown Lake as the meeting point. The walk/talk will be lead by local resident Matt Doyle and will be casual/non strenuous.
Afterwards we will rest up at the Manor Stone Service area. This might not be the most suitable area for refreshments but kind of the only option available in the locality and hopefully if the weather is good we might get a space outside (unless anyone else has an improved suggestion?!)
For those not familiar with the location of the lake (including myself -shame !!) Take the Rathdowney (main) road through Ballacolla ,heading for Manor Stone (and keeping it on your left). At the nearby round-about take the Rathdowney Road and continue for c. 3 km. Watch out for the brown Heritage sign on your right after 3 bungalows and a grass area to find car park for lake.
Hopefully we will have a good interest in this activity. No need to let me know, just show up at meeting point.
